In focus

A small traveller in blue and green

The Blue-winged Parrot pairs olive-green plumage with vivid blue wings and a yellow underside. It feeds on seeds in grassy habitats and moves through open country in small groups. Some birds cross Bass Strait, connecting Tasmania with the mainland and making this small parrot part of a much wider seasonal story.

Where to look

South-eastern Australia and Tasmania, with seasonal movements farther inland.
