A woodland specialist with a splash of colour

The Glossy Black-Cockatoo is a quiet woodland specialist with a strong bill and bright panels in its tail. It spends much of its feeding time opening sheoak cones for their seeds. In south-eastern Australia, healthy sheoak stands and old hollow-bearing trees help sustain the small groups that move through these landscapes.

Where to look

Eastern Queensland, NSW and eastern Victoria for the south-eastern subspecies.
