In focus

A summer visitor built for flight

The White-throated Needletail is a powerful aerial visitor to eastern Australia during the warmer months. Broad, swept-back wings and contrasting white markings help identify it as it catches insects in flight. Its journey between Asian breeding grounds and Australian skies makes it an extraordinary seasonal neighbour.

Where to look

Mainly eastern Australia in spring, summer and early autumn.
